Taking out the Eurotrash

eurotrash_sqRegular listeners are probably already aware by now, that the Eurotrash is no more! As with all good things, there had to be an end, and with the last Christmas episode, we got the old crew back together for one last go around! We’d like to say that we’re throwing in the towel because our efforts to solve world hunger and push the middle east peace process through is taking up most of our time, but if I did I’d only be telling half the truth.

A While ago the crew decided that we weren’t having enough time to record and edit the way we wanted to… as you can see, the number of episodes in 2014 was down on the previous years, because of lack of time and so many other projects. So, something had to give. We hope you’ve had a fun journey with us over the years, and it’s been a pleasure to do.

So, thank you Ben, Craig, Dale, Wim… thank you to the guests over the years for putting up with our silly questions… and most of all, thank YOU the listeners for making us want to do this thing again and again until our hands bled from the editing, and our families were starving on the streets*

So, this Christmas time, don’t cry for us! Light a candle (or a cigarette), and raise a glass (or a bottle of vodka) to the Eurotrash Security Podcast… gone but not forgotten! Episode 50: The Final One… evar

“Doesn’t Ben look hawt in his new work outfit!”

Note: Past episodes will remain available on http://eurotrashsecurity.eu until such time as  Craig gets so drunk that he forgets to renew the domain… or he pawns it to buy cheap aftershave! So probably a few months at least 😉

UPDATE: New Advanced Penetration Testing Class from SANS

I posted a few weeks back about the new SANS SEC:660 class coming to the SANS London conference at the end of November. Last week I managed to get Stephen Sims (one of the authors of the new class) on the line to chat about what the new 6-day course is all about, and what it provides over and above the SANS SEC:560 class. We also talked about the fate of his SEC:709 “Developing Exploits for Penetration Testers and Security Researchers” class and how advanced exploit classes are a niche offering.

You can download the audio of my chat to Stephen through the Eurotrash Security Podcast feed (iTunes | XML Feed) or directly from here.

Stephen Sims will also be giving a SANS@night presentation at SANS London discussing “Microsoft Patch Analysis and Exploitation”.

If you’re looking for more information about the course or have any additional questions please feel free to checkout the course overview here or contact Stephen Sims directly through email (stephen@deadlisting.com)

Note: The new SANS SEC:580Metasploit Kung Fu for Enterprise Pen Testing” will also be running at SANS London… look for a review of the SEC:660 and SEC:580 courses once the conference concludes.

BruCON: Podcasters Meetup

For the first time in the history of security podcasters meetups, podcasters from three continents will join forces at Brucon on September 24th, 2010 to record a podcast episode while streaming live audio and video.

We would like to thank our awesome sponsors for helping to make this event possible:

We would also like to thank the BruCON organizers for providing the location, support and assistance to put this event together.

Cool, when will this take place

  • Date : September 24th
  • Time : 21:00-22:00
  • Place : Main auditorium @ the Brucon venue
  • More info on Brucon ? http://www.brucon.org

Who will be there ?

The following podcasts will be present at the meetup :

So what are you all up to ?

We’re podcasters. We podcast. Generally this means we talk into microphones while a recording device picks up the soundwaves we produce. On this occasion we will discuss topics provided by the audience and security-related questions from the audience. We will not provide general counselling or relationship advice.

We might randomly throw some swag your way, a helmet is optional.

After the recording you can join us in the Brucon lounge where we will chill out and partake in Seccubus Powerpoint Karaoke. Drinks are on us until 11pm. Whatever will happen AFTER that is still a big question. As the question is slowly answered, it remains BIG and might grow HUGE. More details soon.

I have a topic or a question for you!

Send everything you want to ask us : feedback@eurotrashsecurity.eu

It’s not too late to become a sponsor of this event. Apart from making our listeners very happy, it is a unique chance to showcase your brand to the security community. Occasions where you are represented to an audience of thousands on 3 different continents are rare. hit us up at feedback@eurotrashsecurity.eu for details.

Eurotrash’s 1st Birthday

Well who would thunk it…almost a year after the creation of Eurotrash and we’re still going strong! It’s been a wild and interesting ride, filled with great guests and good discussions. Not to mention the funny accents!

Almost a year ago, I sat down at BruCON with Dale, Craig and Wim to talk about maybe possibly starting a European podcast. As with many things it started off as an innocnet comment on twitter, which soon snowballed into an idea, and from there into a real podcast.

Listening back to the first episodes it’s easy to see we weren’t seasoned professionals. The ummms and errrrs have hopefully lessened a bit over time, but we’re still working to make things better behind the scenes. I always love looking back at things I’ve written, coded, or said in years past. It reminds me that even though you think you’re standing stillm you’re really not. Things can only get better from here… face it, they couldn’t get much worse 😀

We’ve had so many great guests on the podcast in the last year it’s hard to remember them all. I’d like to thank everybody that’s been on the podcast as a guest, but most of all I’d like to thank Wim, Craig, and Dale for taking this unmolded idea and really making it into something we can be proud of. I’d also like to thank Xavier for being so generous with his time (sorting the website, hosting and being there when we needed him) and DualCore…. for just being excellent, and giving us a song when nobody had even heard of us.

If you’ve not had the joy of hearing us head over to iTunes or take a look at the Eurotrash RSS feed. I’m promise you, it’ll at least be entertaining, if not informative 😉

Rumours are already spreading of the plans for this years BruCON podcasters meetup. All I can say, is if Wim gets his way, it’s going to be an event to be remembered!

Here’s to another year of Eurotrash… may the trash be with you!
