Well who would thunk it…almost a year after the creation of Eurotrash and we’re still going strong! It’s been a wild and interesting ride, filled with great guests and good discussions. Not to mention the funny accents!
Almost a year ago, I sat down at BruCON with Dale, Craig and Wim to talk about maybe possibly starting a European podcast. As with many things it started off as an innocnet comment on twitter, which soon snowballed into an idea, and from there into a real podcast.
Listening back to the first episodes it’s easy to see we weren’t seasoned professionals. The ummms and errrrs have hopefully lessened a bit over time, but we’re still working to make things better behind the scenes. I always love looking back at things I’ve written, coded, or said in years past. It reminds me that even though you think you’re standing stillm you’re really not. Things can only get better from here… face it, they couldn’t get much worse 😀
We’ve had so many great guests on the podcast in the last year it’s hard to remember them all. I’d like to thank everybody that’s been on the podcast as a guest, but most of all I’d like to thank Wim, Craig, and Dale for taking this unmolded idea and really making it into something we can be proud of. I’d also like to thank Xavier for being so generous with his time (sorting the website, hosting and being there when we needed him) and DualCore…. for just being excellent, and giving us a song when nobody had even heard of us.
If you’ve not had the joy of hearing us head over to iTunes or take a look at the Eurotrash RSS feed. I’m promise you, it’ll at least be entertaining, if not informative 😉
Rumours are already spreading of the plans for this years BruCON podcasters meetup. All I can say, is if Wim gets his way, it’s going to be an event to be remembered!
Here’s to another year of Eurotrash… may the trash be with you!

Nothing in life goes completely to plan, and the Microcasts (affectionately called MicroTrash, by me at least) were nothing different. I had planned to collect a microphone I’d ordered and grab a few quiet moments at Shmoocon to chat to people and get some quick interviews. With that plan in my head, I firmly forgot my mic at the hotel, and when I did retrieve it, I had no time to talk to anybody. Still all was not lost. Since I got back from Washington I’ve taken the time to record a few interviews that I should have done while at Shmoocon. I’ve learnt a lot, about one-on-one interviewing, about editing, about iTunes and it’s tickled XML feed format… most of all, I’ve learnt that I say ahhhh and ummmm way too much!
Anyway, for those interested, here are direct links to the 3 Shmoocon Eurotrash Microcasts.
- Microcast 1: An interview with Robin Wood – MP3
- In this interview I chat to Robin Wood about his Social Zombies talk at Shmoocon, his current projects and what the future holds
- Microcast 2: An interview with Dan Crowley – MP3
- Dan was nice enough to run through his “Windows File Pseudonyms” talk and give some great technical content
- Microcast 3: An interview with Doug Wilson – MP3
- In the last of this series, I talked to Doug Wilson from Mandiant about the OWASP Broken Web Application project (http://owaspbwa.org)
Hopefully I’ll be a little more prepared for Blackhat Europe. Here’s hoping that I manage to record something.
Please let me know what you think of the Microtrash format –> feedback [AT] eurotrashsecurity [DOT] eu
If you want to subscribe to the Eurotrash Security Podcast, you can find it in iTunes, or just at the easy to find XML file to your favourite Podcast grabber

Well, the Eurotrash team (me, Craig Balding, Wim Remes and Dale Pearson) have just released the 3rd episode of the Eurotrash Security Podcast. As with every new project, you’re never quite sure how it’s going to turn out, but even if I do say so myself, the first 3 episodes have really been fun, educational and a great experience all round.
As the team moves into 2010 we’ve got more than a few interesting things lined up. We’ve got a few special interviews in the works, as well as a couple of mashups with some people who will probably spend most of the time laughing at our strange European type accents. So, what does this mean for you, the reader listener ?
Well, we want feedback…. Are we doing things right ? are the episodes too long/short ? too much/not enough news ? Technical content / segments ? Who do YOU want us to talk to next ? We do this for fun, and even though I’d be more than happy to talk to our excellent guests, chat with Craig, Dale and Wim about random things and then never release the audio, we do the podcast so others can listen in and join in the fun. So make yourself heard… tell your friends, your friends friends, and your friends friends pet cat Jimmy. Every little helps 😉
We all hope you’ve enjoyed the start of Eurotrash in 2009, and hope to make it bigger and better in 2010! Be a part of that by telling us what you really think –> firstname.lastname@example.org
